The first week of Natalia’s stay with us wasn’t without an adventure. Five days after she arrived at our house, on August 23rd, we had an earthquake! In New Jersey!! This is totally unheard of for this area, it was the first for all of us (other than Indira), it was an experience like no other, pretty scary not knowing how long it will last.
What happened is that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit in Virginia and it was felt all the way up the East coast. The intensity in NJ was estimated at about three. I was at work, and saw the wall of my office and the floor under my feet do a wave, and then it did it again. It felt very strange, but luckily there was no damage in our area and it was over in under a minute. I called home right away - kids were napping and didn’t even realize what happened, and Indira and Natalia were in the basement, they thought it was Natalia moving the couch. After checking in with everyone to make sure that everyone is alright we were happy report that we survived our first Earthquake!!
